How does property valuation work in the Azores?

Answer updated 18 October 2026Independent guide
Short answer

Property valuation is usually done by a licensed appraiser, often required by banks for mortgages. The process considers location, condition, size and comparable sales, but in the Azores comparable data can be scarce, especially on smaller islands. Valuations may therefore rely more on local knowledge. For official purposes, the bank or a certified appraiser will provide the final figure.
