Short answer
The Azores do not have a single, formally designated capital. The regional institutions are spread across three cities: the President of the Regional Government sits in Ponta Delgada (São Miguel), the Regional Legislative Assembly (parliament) in Horta (Faial), and the Representative of the Republic in Angra do Heroísmo (Terceira), the historic capital. Ponta Delgada is the largest city and the main economic and transport hub, which is why many people call it the capital.
