Buying a home

How do I register the property at the Land Registry after the deed?

Answer updated 18 October 2026Independent guide
Short answer

The notary or your lawyer usually handles registration at the Conservatória do Registo Predial right after the deed. You should confirm who is responsible and get the registration number and a certidão permanente. Registration is what makes your ownership official and public; without it, your title is not fully protected. Ask for proof of registration and check the official IRN website for details.
